Memberships

  • $600 (+GST) annual membership.

  • $300 (+GST) annual membership + $100 (+GST) for each additional seat

    Attend pitch events online only. Access to company information and pitch recordings through Dealum.

  • $600 (+GST ) annual membership + $200 (+GST) for each additional seat.

    Attend pitch events in person or online. Access to company information and pitch recordings through Dealum.

    Additional seats are for family members or colleagues at an investment fund.

  • $400 (+GST) annual membership.

Pitch Events

  • We host 11 pitch events. One each month, except August.

  • We meet in-person and live-stream the events on the 1st Wednesday of the month (or sometimes the 2nd).

  • We showcase BC based, pre-seed and seed stage technology businesses.

  • 5-6 x 5 min presentations from early-stage founders who are looking for investment capital. Followed by Q&A.

  • These companies are vetted and selected to pitch by our screening committee of members and business experts.

  • 4-6 x 90 sec company introductions, updates or last calls.

  • Networking with product demos and catered food and beverages.

  • Members are encouraged to make announcements at our events about programs they’re running, events they’re hosting, deals they are looking at or rounds they’re raising (for funds).

FAQs

Can I be a member if I’m not currently an accredited investor?

VANTEC members are required to be accredited investors who are actively investing or are eager to make their first investment. Individuals that represent accredited investors looking to invest in startups are also permitted to become members.

How do I qualify as an accredited investor?

An accredited investor is defined by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) in National Instrument 45-106 (section 1.1). There are a number of definitions, but the most commonly used are j. having greater than $1M in net financial assets; k. having an income of at least $200K alone or $300K when combined with a spouse; or l. having more than $5M in net total assets.

Can I bring a guest to an event?

We’re always looking to grow our community, so guests are certainly welcome. All guests do need to be approved by VANTEC, and must be accredited investors that are interested in joining VANTEC as a member. Contact us to introduce a prospective member or ask any questions you have.

Why do guests need to be accredited investors?

Our pitch events are for entrepreneurs to meet investors, so we want to make sure that they do. If you are an entrepreneur wanting to see what to expect from our events, you can find these details and watch videos on our Apply to Pitch page. We appreciate you understanding.

I’m a new angel investor. What advice do you have for me?

Firstly, we’re stoked for you! We know angel investing can be a bit daunting at first, but we’re here to support. 1. Deal flow is key to success. 2. Build your network to get different perspectives on businesses and opportunities. 3. Take a curious approach to investing and always strive to learn and understand. 4. Don’t invest all of the funds you’ve set aside for angel investing too quickly. 5. Consider investing in early stage funds.

Can I become a member if I’m not actively investing in startups?

We understand that angel investors sometimes like to take a break from investing, but still keep their finger on the pulse of the ecosystem. As long as you’re an accredited investor and intend to be a connector to other investors for startups, you welcome to be a VANTEC member.
